As per reports, six people were reported missing at sea at approximately 1000 hours (local time) on Thursday (06 August) after a fibreglass half-cabin boat travelling from Namuka-i-Lau to Fulaga failed to arrive at its destination.
• A search and rescue operation is underway involving the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), Fiji Police Force, National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF), local communities, and nearby vessels.
• Following the incident, MSAF issued a maritime safety advisory urging mariners and small boat operators to avoid unnecessary sea travel in areas under strong wind and rough sea warnings.
• Authorities are continuing search operations and have reiterated the importance of adhering to maritime safety advisories.
