As per reports, members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) are scheduled to hold a rally outside County Hall in Maidstone at 1200 hours local time (1100 hours UTC) on Tuesday (04 August) to protest proposed fire station closures, changes to working patterns, and potential job cuts.
• Reports indicate that the Kent and Medway Fire and Rescue Authority (KMFRA) is scheduled to meet on Thursday (06 August) to decide whether proposals for fire station closures and changes to staffing arrangements will proceed to public consultation.
• Reports indicate that the proposals include the closure of on-call fire stations at Wye, Chilham, Westerham, and Cliffe, and the removal of on-call sections from wholetime stations at Herne Bay, Deal, Tunbridge Wells, and Faversham.
• Reports indicate that the FBU has stated that up to 76 on-call firefighter roles may be affected and that industrial action remains a possibility if the proposals proceed.
