As per reports, parents affected by the stalled Uasin Gishu overseas education programme staged a peaceful protest in Eldoret on Tuesday (28 July), demanding refunds for money paid under the programme after a court acquitted officials linked to the case.

• Reports indicate that the protesters marched to the Uasin Gishu County Government headquarters seeking an audience with Governor Jonathan Bii, before proceeding to the regional office of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) after being denied entry. The demonstration followed a Nakuru court decision acquitting Jackson Mandago and two former county officials of charges relating to the alleged misuse of funds collected under the programme.
• Reportedly, more than 300 parents paid fees for the overseas education programme, under which students were expected to study in Finland and Canada, but many participants never travelled. Protesters stated that some families sold land and livestock to raise tuition payments of approximately KSh 1.2 million per student and vowed to continue demonstrations until refunds are made.
