As per reports, the City of Cape Town has scheduled a planned 16-hour electricity outage to facilitate essential maintenance and upgrades to the municipal electricity network on Saturday (25 July) and Sunday (26 July).

• The interruption is scheduled to begin at 1800 hours local time (1600 hours UTC) on Saturday (25 July) and is expected continue until 1000 hours local time (0800 hours local time) on Sunday (26 July).
• The planned outage forms part of the municipality’s ongoing preventative infrastructure maintenance programme, which is intended to improve the reliability, resilience, and long-term performance of Cape Town’s electricity distribution network.
• The work also aims to upgrade ageing infrastructure and reduce the likelihood of unplanned power failures in the future.
• The areas expected to be affected include Pinelands, Howard Centre, Epping, Epping Industria, and Langa.
• According to the City of Cape Town, the areas identified within both the red and blue sections of the official outage map, together with Langa, are scheduled to experience the interruption.
• Nearby locations may also experience temporary electricity interruptions depending on the configuration of the electricity network.
• The municipality has advised that electricity supply may be restored earlier than the scheduled completion time if maintenance activities are completed ahead of schedule. If the planned maintenance cannot proceed as scheduled, an alternative date will be announced.
• Residents have been advised to switch off electrical appliances before the outage begins to reduce the risk of damage from possible power surges when electricity supply is restored.
