Extreme heat forecast to persist across Iraq through Sunday (19 July)

As per reports, the Iraqi Meteorological Authority forecasts clear and extremely hot weather across Iraq from Thursday (16 July) through Sunday (19 July), with temperatures expected to remain near seasonal averages before increasing slightly on Saturday (18 July).

• Authorities forecast maximum temperatures of up to 50 degrees Celsius across Basra, Maysan and Dhi Qar governorates on Thursday (16 July). Temperatures are expected to reach 48 degrees Celsius in Karbala, Najaf and Muthanna, 47 degrees Celsius in Baghdad, Diyala, Salah al-Din, Wasit, Babil and Al-Qadisiyyah (Diwaniyah), 46 degrees Celsius in Anbar, 45 degrees Celsius in Nineveh and Kirkuk, 43 degrees Celsius in Erbil, and 42 degrees Celsius in Duhok and Sulaymaniyah.
• Forecasts indicate clear skies is expected to persist across most of the country through the forecast period, while some cloud cover is expected over southern Iraq on Sunday (19 July).
