As per reports, security arrangements have been intensified in parts of Chandigarh and Haryana following an email claiming a potential security threat during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on Friday (17 July). The details are as follows:

• The email, purportedly sent on behalf of a group identifying itself as the “Khalistan National Army”, claimed that improvised explosive device (IED) blasts would occur at schools at 1311 hours (local time), the Mohali Mayor’s Office at 1511 hours (local time), and at railway stations in Chandigarh and Jalandhar. The email also mentioned Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu.
• Following the email, police and security agencies initiated an investigation, are assessing the credibility of the threat, and have enhanced security measures at sensitive locations associated with the Prime Minister’s visit.
