As per reports, multiple demonstrations, gatherings, and protest-related activities are scheduled across Mexico City on Monday (15 June).
Authorities have warned of potential traffic disruptions particularly in the boroughs of Cuauhtémoc, Tlalpan, Álvaro Obregón, and Iztacalco.
• Members of the Temporary Workers of the Guerrero Health Secretariat began a demonstration at 0700 hours local time (1300 hours UTC) outside the IMSS-BIENESTAR Central Offices located at Gustavo E. Campa No. 54 in the Guadalupe Inn neighborhood of Álvaro Obregón borough. Demonstrators are demanding the regularization of contract workers, payment of uniforms, the release of personnel from the detoxification period, and an end to alleged harassment by state and federal authorities.
• Members of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) are scheduled to gather at 1030 hours local time (1630 hours UTC) at the Tlalpan toll plaza on the Mexico-Cuernavaca Highway in the Los Cipreses neighborhood of Tlalpan borough. Approximately 800 participants are expected to attend. Authorities indicated that demonstrators are expected to allow free passage through toll lanes leading toward Mexico City.
• Members of the Mexico City Transportation Workers Movement are scheduled to gather near Plaza de la Constitución (Zócalo) from approximately 0900 hours local time (1500 hours UTC). Participants are seeking dialogue with city authorities regarding fuel subsidies and permit renewal procedures. Intermittent road closures are anticipated on Avenida 20 de Noviembre and Pino Suárez Street.
• At approximately 1100 hours local time (1700 hours UTC), members of the community organization ‘Vecinos Unidos por Cuauhtémoc’ are scheduled to gather outside the Cuauhtémoc borough headquarters. Participants are expected to raise concerns regarding informal street vending and water shortages affecting parts of the Roma Norte and Juárez neighborhoods.
• Supporters of cannabis legalization are scheduled to continue a sit-in and information campaign from approximately 1300 hours local time (1900 hours UTC) near Plaza de la Información at the intersection of Paseo de la Reforma and Avenida Hidalgo. Authorities warned that activities may affect Metrobús operations serving the area.
• An environmental advocacy gathering organized by the Axolotl Sanctuary movement is scheduled for 1400 hours local time (2000 hours UTC) near the Palace of Fine Arts. Participants intend to raise awareness regarding wastewater discharges into the canals of Xochimilco and their impact on the conservation of the Mexican axolotl.
• At 1500 hours local time (2100 hours UTC), members of the Housing Applicants Group are scheduled to gather at the Mexico City Housing Secretariat in the Granjas México neighborhood of Iztacalco borough to request inclusion in housing programs. Approximately 40 participants are expected.
• The Democratic Citizens’ Union is also scheduled to conduct demonstrations throughout the day outside government offices to demand action on housing-related issues. Approximately 30 participants are expected to attend.
