Nationwide power outage reported across Uganda following national grid failure on Friday (05 June)

As per reports, Uganda experienced a nationwide power outage at approximately 2107 hours local time (1807 hours UTC) on Friday (05 June) following a major failure of the national electricity grid.

The Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) confirmed the incident and stated that technical teams had been deployed to investigate the cause of the failure and restore electricity supply.

• The disruption affected multiple regions across Uganda, including Kampala, Jinja, Gulu and Mbarara, with residents and businesses reporting widespread loss of electricity supply.
• As of 2230 hours local time (1930 hours UTC) authorities had not provided an official timeline for full restoration of service.
• The exact cause of the outage remains under investigation. However, local media reports indicated that an unconfirmed fault at the Owen Falls Dam (Nalubaale Power Station) in Jinja may have contributed to the system collapse.
