Major road closures planned in Alicante for Fogueres proclamation and Ninot parade through Saturday (06 June)

As per reports, the first major public events of the Fogueres de Sant Joan festival are scheduled to take place in central Alicante from Thursday (04 June) through Saturday (06 June), prompting significant traffic and public transport disruptions. Authorities have implemented a special mobility plan covering the festival lights inauguration, the official opening proclamation (Pregón), and the traditional Ninot Parade, all of which are expected to attract large crowds to the city centre.

• On Thursday (04 June), the ceremonial illumination of the festival lights is scheduled at Plaza del Ayuntamiento at 2100 hours local time (1900 hours UTC). The event is expected to require the closure of Plaza del Ayuntamiento and portions of Calle Altamira, with temporary diversions affecting buses and taxis operating in the area. Public bus services are expected to operate on modified routes, affecting Lines one, three, four, six, eight, nine, 10, 12, 13, and 24 on Friday (05 June).
• The most significant disruptions on Friday (05 June) are associated with the Fogueres opening proclamation. Traffic restrictions are scheduled from 1700 hours local time (1500 hours UTC) to 2300 hours local time (2100 hours UTC) along the route between Plaza de España, Calle San Vicente, La Rambla, Calle Altamira, and Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Additional restrictions are expected on Avenida Alfonso el Sabio and surrounding access roads as participants and spectators gather for the procession and official ceremonies.
• On Saturday (06 June), the Ninot Parade is expected to generate extensive disruptions across central Alicante. Temporary restrictions are scheduled from 0800 hours local time (0600 hours UTC) to facilitate the installation of seating areas along the parade route. Full road closures are expected from 1600 hours local time (1400 hours UTC), with the parade proceeding from Plaza de Los Luceros through Avenida Alfonso el Sabio, La Rambla, Calle Altamira, and Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Traffic disruptions are expected to continue until approximately 0000 hours local time (2200 hours UTC) on Sunday (07 June).
