As per reports, Romanian authorities have formally concluded the technical investigation into the drone strike on a residential building in Galati, Romania, on 29 May.

• Romanian President Nicusor Dan announced on Sunday (31 May) that the drone which struck an apartment block in Galati is a Geran-2 of Russian origin.
• He described the finding as the unequivocal conclusion of the technical report finalised by Romanian state experts and stated that Russia bears sole responsibility for the incident.
• Romanian President Nicusor Dan stated that Romania’s findings will be relayed to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) and the European Union (EU).
• Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously suggested the drone could be of Ukrainian origin and stated that it was premature to determine its nationality without a thorough examination. The Romanian investigation directly contradicts this claim.
• On the day of the strike, 29 May, the Russian embassy in Romania accused Ukraine of having staged a provocation, and former Russian President Dmitri Medvedev warned the EU to ‘stay vigilant and not be surprised by anything,’ attributing incidents of this nature to European authorities’ decision to become involved in what he termed a conflict with Russia.
