Nightly curfew imposed following violent civil unrest near Delaney Hall in Newark from Sunday (31 June)

As per reports, Newark Mayor has announced the immediate enactment of a localized mandatory nightly curfew around the Delaney Hall immigration detention facility starting Sunday (31 May).

• The localized curfew is scheduled to remain in effect nightly from 2100 hours local time (0100 hours UTC the following day) until 0600 hours local time (1000 hours UTC) until further notice.
• The civil unrest escalated significantly on Saturday (30 May) night when groups of demonstrators overwhelmed protective barriers and advanced into designated law enforcement zones.
• Responding units from the New Jersey State Police and the Newark Police Department deployed multiple rounds of tear gas and tactical crowd dispersion measures to manage the crowds.
• The affected areas encompass the commercial and light industrial zones surrounding the facility at 451 Doremus Avenue in Newark’s Industrial Meadowlands district, with key perimeters intersecting portions of Doremus Avenue, Raymond Boulevard, and the immediate links to the multi-lane New Jersey Turnpike (I-95) network.
