Update on power supply disruptions in Sumatra – Sunday (24 May)

As per reports, PT PLN (Persero) has gradually completed the restoration of the electricity system in Sumatra after widespread disruptions occurred on the interconnection transmission network.

Following are additional details:

• As of Sunday (24 May) at 0600 WIB, 176 affected substations had returned to normal operation, while electricity supply to residents’ homes began to gradually recover.
• PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that the recovery process has been intensive since the disruption was first detected on Friday (22 May). The restoration of normal operation is being carried out in stages, starting with the generation system, transmission network, and distribution to households.
• Previously, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) asked PT PLN (Persero) to expedite the process. The government also ensured that a thorough investigation would be carried out to prevent a similar incident from happening again.
• Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot stated that the government, together with the Ministry of State Secretariat and PT PLN (Persero), is currently continuing intensive coordination to handle the electricity system disruption.
