Heightened security measures announced in Pune – Monday (18 May)

As per reports published on Monday (18 May), the Pune Police has decided to launch a special vehicle-checking drive at key entry points across Pune.

An official confirmation is awaited; however, as per available reports, the following are the latest updates:

• Police barricading and selective vehicle inspections are likely to be conducted on multiple routes throughout the week as part of enhanced security and monitoring measures.
• The intensified checking campaign will be conducted on seven major roads leading into the city, including Satara Road, Baner Road, Solapur Road, Old Pune-Mumbai Highway, Nagar Road, Sinhagad Road and Saswad Road.
• According to police officials, vehicle inspections will be carried out every night during fixed hours. During the operation, police personnel will verify vehicle documents, inspect suspicious vehicles and monitor suspected criminals and anti-social elements entering the city.
• For the campaign, police inspectors, sub-inspectors and other personnel will be deployed at each checkpoint, while the traffic department will provide additional manpower. Police teams stationed at barricading points will also carry weapons, including nine millimetre carbines, pistols, revolvers and ammunition as part of security preparedness.
• Police clarified that not every vehicle will be stopped. Instead, suspicious vehicles will be selectively checked to avoid unnecessary inconvenience to commuters.
• Authorities have appealed to motorists to carry all necessary vehicle documents while travelling.
