As per reports, the Government of Malta announced that non-residents, including tourists and short-term visitors, will be required to pay immediate on-the-spot fines for certain legal violations from Sunday (01 June).

• The measure will be enforced nationwide, with particular focus on high-tourism and nightlife areas such as Paceville, where additional CCTV systems and a specialised police unit are being deployed.
• Electronic payments will be collected immediately by enforcement officers, although individuals retain the right to challenge fines before a tribunal.
• The policy has been introduced via legal notice to address longstanding challenges with unpaid fines issued to non-residents
