As per reports, workers across New Zealand will mark International Workers’ Day (May Day) through a series of union-led events and gatherings advocating for workers’ rights and public services on Friday (01 May). Organized by the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions (NZCTU), the nationwide actions will focus on supporting schools, hospitals, and essential public services amid concerns over government policies affecting workers.

As part of the initiative, unions will host “hui” (meetings and demonstrations) across multiple locations.

• In Wellington, a coordinated solidarity action will take place from 0645 to 0715 hours (local time), where nurses, teachers, students, and community members (whānau) will form a human chain from Newtown School to Wellington Regional Hospital.
• The demonstration aims to show collective support for essential workers and highlight pressures faced by public service sectors.
