The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued an alert for heavy rain for the entire Fiji group at 1100 hours (local time) on Thursday (23 April), due to a trough of low pressure continuing to affect the region. The weather system is bringing cloud cover, showers, and periods of rain across the Fiji group, with conditions expected to persist throughout the day.
• Forecast conditions indicate occasional rain with isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls over the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, the whole of Viti Levu, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, southern parts of Bua and Cakaudrove provinces, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, as well as the Lau and Lomaiviti groups.
• Other areas are expected to remain partly cloudy with intermittent showers, which are likely to become more frequent and intensify into rain later in the day.
• Afternoon and evening thunderstorms with isolated heavy rainfall are also expected across several regions. Rainfall intensity is expected to gradually reduce to showers across most locations from Thursday (23 April).
