Situational update on arrests reported during anti-war protests in Washington DC on Monday (20 April)

As per reports, a protest involving veterans and military family members took place at the Cannon House Office Building within the United States Capitol complex on Monday (20 April).

• The demonstration was organized by multiple groups, including Center on Conscience and War, Veterans For Peace, Common Defense, and Military Families Speak Out, among others.
• Protesters entered and occupied the building’s rotunda area, displaying banners opposing the ongoing Iran conflict and conducting symbolic actions such as holding red tulips and performing a flag-folding ceremony.
• The demonstration aimed to call for a halt to funding for the conflict and to seek engagement with Mike Johnson.
• Law enforcement authorities, specifically the United States Capitol Police, responded by detaining participants. At least 62 individuals were arrested after refusing to disperse, with participants being restrained and removed from the premises.
