As per reports, private water tanker operators in Pune, Maharashtra have initiated an indefinite strike from Wednesday (15 April), impacting water supply in parts of south Pune.

• The disruption is affecting residential areas including Handewadi, Mohammadwadi, Undri, and Pisoli, particularly along the NIBM–Cloud 9 belt, where several housing societies rely on private tanker services for daily water supply.
• The strike has been announced following recent enforcement actions by traffic police against more than 300 tanker vehicles after reported road accidents. Operators have stated that despite possessing valid permits, their vehicles are being routinely stopped and penalised, resulting in operational uncertainty. Concerns have also been raised regarding additional compliance requirements, including the mandatory deployment of helpers on each tanker, with penalties imposed for non-compliance.
• Tanker operators have indicated that these measures have increased operational costs and created financial strain, prompting the decision to suspend services until concerns are addressed.
