As per reports, a major geological crack detected in the early hours of Tuesday (07 April) in the municipality of Petacciato, Molise Region, southern Italy, continues to pose a significant infrastructure and transport disruption as of Wednesday (08 April).

The following key developments have been reported:

• A crack measuring approximately four kilometres in length was detected in the ground in Petacciato on Tuesday (07 April), resulting from the reactivation of a long-standing landslide formation
• The crack prompted the immediate closure of the Autostrada A14, one of the principal motorway arteries of southern Italy, and the suspension of regional rail services in the affected corridor, as ground deformation was found to represent a direct safety risk to both road and rail infrastructure.
• As of Wednesday (08 April), the A14 motorway closure and the regional rail service suspension remain in effect. No timeline for reopening has been confirmed, as any intervention on damaged infrastructure is contingent upon the full stabilisation of the terrain.
