The Philippines Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) recorded a 5.4 magnitude earthquake in the sea near Bogo City in Cebu at 1522 hours (local time) on Monday (06 April).
• As per PHIVOLCS, the tectonic earthquake’s epicenter was located 17 kilometers southeast of Bogo, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
• Tremors and structural damage have been reported in Bogo. Parts of the ceiling fell off at a bank branch, while goods toppled to the floor at a convenience store. Several residents also rushed out of buildings after experiencing tremors.
• Tremors were also felt in Cebu City, where students reportedly rushed out of the University of Cebu building.
• As per PHIVOLCS, Seismic Intensity-IV was recorded in San Francisco, Cebu; and Hilongos and Villaba, Leyte. Seismic Intensity III was recorded in Liloan, Talisay, and Lapu-lapu City in Cebu; Isabel, Baybay, Carigara, Ormoc City, and Abuyog, in Leyte; Esperanza in Masbate; and in Hinundayan, Southern Leyte. Seismic Intensity II was recorded in Kawayan, and Naval, Biliran; Roxas City, Capiz; Carcar, San Fernando, Argao, and Asturias, in Cebu; Iloilo City; Dulag, Alangalang, and Palo, Leyte; La Carlota City, Negros Occidental; Silago, and Sogod, in Southern Leyte.
• PHIVOLCS has also cautioned that damage and aftershocks are possible. Six aftershocks between magnitudes 1.4 to 3.2 were recorded around Bogo till 1552 hours (local time).
