As per reports, a large-scale religious procession, the ‘Way of the Cross,’ is scheduled to take place in Calgary on Friday (03 April), with hundreds to over 2,500 participants expected to gather, potentially causing localized disruptions across key parts of the city.
• The event will commence at 0830 hours local time (1430 hours UTC) from St. Mary’s Cathedral, located along 18th Avenue Southwest, and will follow a modified route through the downtown core before returning to the same location.
• The procession involves participants moving in groups and stopping at multiple points (Stations of the Cross), leading to intermittent halts and slow-moving crowds along the route.
• Temporary road closures and traffic restrictions will be implemented along 18th Avenue Southwest and surrounding downtown streets during the event, particularly as the procession moves through key central areas.
• These measures are expected to remain in place intermittently throughout the morning hours, depending on the movement of participants.
