Criminal penalties for transgender bathroom use in private businesses to take effect in Idaho from 01 July

As per reports, a law criminalizing transgender individuals using bathrooms and changing rooms that align with their gender identity in places of public accommodation, including private businesses, is set to take effect in Idaho from 01 July.

• Under the law, transgender individuals who enter a bathroom or changing room designated for the opposite biological sex may face criminal charges.
• A first offense constitutes a misdemeanor with a penalty of up to one year in prison. A second offense within five years is a felony, punishable by up to five years in prison.
• The legislation applies to government-owned buildings and places of public accommodation, encompassing retail establishments, restaurants, offices, and other business facilities open to the public.
