State of emergency scheduled for extension in Peru from Monday (30 March)

As per reports, the government of Peru has extended the state of emergency in Metropolitan Lima and the Constitutional Province of Callao for an additional 30-day period as part of ongoing efforts to address rising criminal activity and violence from Monday (30 March) and is expected to remain valid till 29 April.

• The measure, formalized through an official decree, is scheduled to maintain enhanced security protocols across Lima and Callao. Under the emergency framework, the National Police of Peru retains primary responsibility for internal security, with operational support from the Armed Forces.
• Reports indicate that authorities are empowered to intensify security operations, including targeted interventions based on intelligence, crime mapping, and statistical indicators.
• The extension is expected to reflect continued concerns over organized crime, extortion, and violent incidents across the capital region of Lima.
