India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alert for parts of West Bengal on Friday (27 March). Thunderstorms, lightning, squall, hailstorm and strong surface winds are forecast.

• Orange alert – Issued for Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Birbhum, Purba and Pashchim Bardhaman, Bankura, Purulia, Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram.
• Yellow alert – Issued for all other regions including Kolkata.
