As per reports, the state of Vorarlberg stated that the Rhine bridge Wiesenrain, a critical cross-border link between Lustenau, Austria, and Widnau, Switzerland, is scheduled for a total closure starting Monday (23 March) until 30 April to facilitate urgent renovation and load-relief works.

• Renovation works are anticipated to include the partial removal of roadway structures to significantly reduce the overall weight and preserve the structural integrity of the bridge.
• Due to significant corrosion damage, the bridge has been restricted to limited use since 2024 for safety reasons ahead of a full general renovation planned for 2030.
• The project is being managed as a joint bridging measure by the State of Vorarlberg and the Municipality of Widnau.
• The affected areas include the primary transit corridors connecting the Austrian Lustenau (L44 Road) with the Swiss Widnau (G1-101 Highway).
