As per reports, US President Donald Trump confirmed that immigration agents from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are scheduled to be deployed at airports in the US to assist the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) starting Monday (23 March).
The deployment is to be initiated unless Democrats agree to pass a DHS funding bill.
• It is being coordinated under White House border official Tom Homan. Hundreds of ICE officers are expected to be assigned to major airports, although specific locations have not been disclosed.
• Under the new plan, ICE officers, who are not trained in aviation security screening, are to be assigned to limited roles such as guarding exit lanes or checking passenger identification, allowing TSA personnel to focus on screening functions.
