Planned full closure of A7 and Elbtunnel in Hamburg from Friday (20 March) to Monday (23 March)

As per reports, a planned 55-hour full closure of the A7 motorway, including the Elbtunnel (Elbe Tunnel), is scheduled to take place in Hamburg from Friday (20 March), with traffic impacts extending through to Monday morning (23 March).

• The closure affects the A7 (Hannover-Flensburg direction) in both directions between the junctions Hamburg-Heimfeld and Hamburg-Stellingen, from Friday (20 March) at 2200 hours local time (2100 hours UTC) until Monday (23 March) at 0500 hours local time (0400 hours UTC).
• Preparatory measures, including progressive closure of motorway on-ramps, are expected to begin on Friday (20 March) at 2100 hours local time (2000 hours UTC). From Saturday (21 March) at 2200 hours local time (2100 hours uTC), the closure is extended northward to include the Tunnel Stellingen and the section between Hamburg-Heimfeld and Dreieck Hamburg-Nordwest, remaining in effect until Monday (23 March) 0500 hours local time (0400 hours UTC), an additional 31-hour restriction.
• Works being carried out during the closure include construction activity related to the future Tunnel Altona noise-reduction project, cable and utility installation, renewal of IT systems and traffic control software in the Tunnel Stellingen, and installation of new overhead gantry signage structures.
• In addition, the Berlinertordamm and Bürgerweide roads within Hamburg city are also subject to a full closure from Friday (20 March) at 2200 hours local time (2100 hours UTC) until Monday (23 March) at 0500 hours local time (0400 hours UTC), in connection with construction works on the Berlinertordamm bridge.
• Long-distance through-traffic is reportedly being diverted via the A1, A21 and B205. Southbound traffic is directed from the Buchholzer Dreieck or Horster Dreieck and northbound traffic from Neumünster-Süd.
