As per reports, authorities have announced the reopening of the Rafah Crossing, the primary border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, for limited movement of people from Wednesday (18 March).
• The reopening was confirmed by COGAT (Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories), the Israeli military body responsible for humanitarian coordination in the Palestinian territories.
• The crossing had been closed at the start of the conflict involving Iran, after briefly reopening earlier in February to allow patients from Gaza to travel abroad for medical treatment.
• Under the new arrangement, the Rafah crossing will operate in both directions, although authorities stated that strict security restrictions will remain in place.
