By-elections scheduled in six states in India in April

As per reports, the Election Commission of India announced the schedule for by elections to eight legislative assembly constituencies across six states in India.

The announcement was made by the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, during a press briefing in New Delhi. The details are as follows:

• Polling for by elections in assembly constituencies located in Goa, Karnataka, Nagaland, and Tripura will take place on Thursday (09 April). The election process for these constituencies will begin with the issuance of the official notification on Monday (16 March).
• The last date for filing nominations has been set for Monday (23 March), while scrutiny of nominations will take place on Tuesday (24 March). The final date for withdrawal of nominations is scheduled for Thursday (26 March).
• By elections in assembly constituencies located in Gujarat and Maharashtra will take place on Thursday (23 April). The election notification for these constituencies will be issued on Monday (30 March).
• The last date for filing nominations will be Monday (06 April), followed by scrutiny of nominations on Tuesday (07 April). The final date for withdrawal of nominations is scheduled for Thursday (09 April).
• The counting of votes for all eight constituencies across the six states will take place on Monday (04 May). Authorities have indicated that the results of these by elections will be declared on the same day as the counting of votes for the legislative assembly elections being conducted in several other states across India.
