The Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) reported a 3.9 magnitude earthquake, at a distance of 77 kilometres southeast of South Nias Regency in North Sumatra province of Indonesia on Thursday (12 March).

The earthquake was reported at approximately 1804 hours (local time) at a depth of 76 kilometres.
