As per reports, the A2 motorway near Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, is scheduled to be fully closed in the direction of Oberhausen between Dortmund-Nordost interchange and Dortmund-Nordwest interchange from 2100 hours local time on Thursday (12 March) (2000 hours UTC) until 0500 hours local time on Monday (16 March) (0400 hours UTC) due to bridge reinforcement works on the A2 bridge over the Dortmund-Ems Canal.
• The Autobahn GmbH stated that the closure forms the second phase of reinforcement works on the aging bridge and that the route must be fully closed because welding work can only be completed safely when traffic-induced vibration is absent.
• Authorities stated that the structure is no longer designed for current traffic volumes, especially the increased number of heavy goods vehicles using this transit corridor.
• The official diversion for traffic is scheduled from Kamener Kreuz via the A1 to Westhofener Kreuz, then via the A45 back to the A2.
• Inner-city diversion routes are also scheduled from Dortmund-Nordost, while long-distance traffic is advised to use a broader rerouting via the A30 and A31 toward Oberhausen.
