Impact Level: Notification
Locations Affected: Tan Thuan 1 Bridge, Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam
Tracking Id: RINTP4475267331
Description:
As per reports, Ho Chi Minh City authorities will restrict certain types of vehicles from crossing Tan Thuan 1 Bridge to ensure the safety of the bridge structure and maintain traffic order. The restrictions will be applied from Saturday (06 December) to Friday (12 December).
The bridge serves as a connection point across the Saigon River, making regulated traffic flow critical for both commuter and commercial transport. The details are as follow:
• Prohibited vehicles include trucks with a carrying capacity of over 1.5 tons, passenger vans with 16 seats or more, vehicles exceeding six tons in total weight, and vehicles taller than 2.5 meters.
• Previously, trucks over 13 tons were banned, but the updated restriction lowers the weight limit to reduce structural load and limit the risk of accidents, particularly during peak traffic periods.
• To mitigate the impact on commuters and businesses, the Department of Construction has designated an alternative route for prohibited vehicles. The route is as follows: Huynh Tan Phat Street → Nguyen Van Linh Street → Tan Thuan 2 Bridge → Nguyen Tat Thanh Street.
Impact:
• Businesses and logistics operators that rely on Tan Thuan 1 Bridge for goods transport may need to adjust delivery schedules or use the designated alternative route. This may result in slightly longer travel times for trucks and larger passenger vans.
• Commuters using prohibited vehicles must reroute, which could increase traffic along the alternative streets, particularly Huynh Tan Phat Street and Nguyen Van Linh Street. Passenger transport services may also need to plan ahead to avoid delays caused by the restrictions.
• Local residents and motorists in the vicinity of the bridge and along alternative routes may experience increased traffic density and minor congestion, particularly during peak hours.
Recommendations:
All road users are advised to comply with traffic control personnel, pay attention to signage and traffic signals, and adjust travel times to accommodate potential increases in traffic on the alternative corridor.
