The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across Karnataka between Wednesday and Friday (11-13 June). Accordingly, red alerts have been declared for nine districts, including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Belgaum, Dharwad, Haveri, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Shivamogga.

As per reports, the following are the updates on inclement weather conditions in parts of Karnataka as of Wednesday (11 June);

• On Wednesday (11 June), the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, squalls, and strong surface winds in the districts of Bagalkote, Bellary, Belagavi, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Bidar, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapura, Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, Dakshina Kannada, Davanagere, Dharwad, Gadag, Hassan, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Kodagu, Kolar, Koppal, Mandya, Mysuru, Raichur, Ramanagara, Shivamogga, Tumakuru, Bijaapur, and Yadgir.
• In addition, the yellow warning for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, squalls, and strong surface winds continues to remain in the districts of Bagalkote, Bellari, Belagavi, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Bidar, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapura, Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, Dakshina Kannada, Davanagere, Dharwad, Gadag, Hassan, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Kodagu, Kolar, Koppal, Mandya, Mysuru, Udupi, Raichur, Ramanagara, Shivamogga, Tumakuru, Bijaapur, and Yadgir on Thursday (12 June).
• In addition, on Tuesday (10 June), waterlogging due to rainfall was reported by the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) at night hours, resulting in slow-moving traffic on the road from Kasthuri Nagar towards Ramamurthy Nagar, the road from Konappana Agrahara towards Hosur road, at the Khode underpass, the road from Okalipura towards Majestic, and on Hosur road from Bommanahalli towards Rupena Agrahara and Rupena Agrahara towards Bommanahalli.
• Similarly, a vehicle breakdown was reported on the road from Kudlu towards Hosur resulting in slow-moving traffic.
• On Wednesday (11 June), at around 0643 hours, waterlogging was reported on the road from Bhadrappa layout railway under bridge towards Dollars Colony, and the road from Auto mart towards 14th Main Road HSR Layout at around 0704 hours.

Impact:

Authorities will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide assistance to manage traffic and minimize disruptions. Further waterlogging and flooding in low-lying inundated areas, particularly in several parts of Bengaluru, such as MG Road, Residency Road, Hebbal Flyover, Koramangala, Whitefield, Sarjapur, Shantinagar bus stand, and Mahadevpura, in case of sustained rainfall, cannot be ruled out, and may cause traffic congestion and delays.

Additionally, impacts on urban roads and infrastructure, including power and telecommunication networks, remain likely due to inclement weather conditions. Commuters may experience travel times exceeding normal durations. Strong winds may also cause felled trees, resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
