Traffic police will implement diversions on nearby corridors to manage congestion and ensure the smooth movement of election-related vehicles.

• Entry and parking of all vehicles, including buses, will be prohibited on roads surrounding Ernakulam Government Girls High School, Maharaja’s College, and SRV High School until 1300 hours (local time).
• Vehicles arriving from South Railway Station will be diverted toward Valanjambalam via Kalathiparamba Road.

• Vehicles traveling from Jose Junction toward Valanjambalam will be diverted toward Pallimukku via SA Road.
• Buses operating along Chittoor Road will be diverted by turning right at Government Girls High School Junction, then left toward Jose Junction, continuing left toward Pallimukku Junction, and further left toward Valanjambalam.

Background:

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the election schedule for the Kerala Assembly election; The State will hold a single-phase poll on Thursday (09 April), with vote counting scheduled for Monday (04 May).

Impact:

Temporary traffic restrictions and parking bans around Ernakulam Government Girls High School, Maharaja’s College, SRV High School, Jose Junction, Pallimukku, and Valanjambalam may lead to localized congestion and slower vehicle movement during the advisory period.

Commuters traveling from South Railway Station, Government Hospital Junction, Chittoor Road, and nearby corridors may experience longer travel times due to diversions and restricted access near polling material distribution centres.

• While essential travel is expected to continue, there may be increased checks and controlled movement in certain areas, especially near polling stations and administrative centers. This could lead to minor delays for commuters and transport operators. Public transport is expected to function, but movement near sensitive zones may be regulated.
• Throughout the various expected election activities, increased security presence, and localized traffic impacts are expected to remain, amid close monitoring of the situation by relevant authorities until the conclusion of all election-related activities.

Recommendations:

Allow additional travel time when commuting near polling stations and avoid large political gatherings as these areas may experience crowding, increased security presence, and potential disruptions.
