Description:

As per reports, tidal flooding of approximately five to ten centimeters was reported along Jalan RE Martadinata in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on Wednesday (03 December), following three consecutive days of similar flooding in the area.

• The flooding was initially observed at around 0830 hours (local time), with water levels reaching nearly ten centimeters according to the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency.
• The tidal flood caused traffic congestion during the morning period before gradually receding. By 1245 hours (local time), authorities confirmed that the water had completely subsided.
• As of 1345 hours (local time), observations indicated that although the floodwater had receded, several puddles remained on the right side of the road near the embankment, along with wet patches on various segments of the roadway.
• These residual puddles did not disrupt passing vehicles, and traffic had returned to normal. Trucks, cars, and motorbikes were seen travelling smoothly at speeds estimated around 35 kilometres per hour.
• The tidal flooding was managed through the deployment of mobile pump trucks by the Jakarta Water Resources Agency. These pump units were placed along affected segments to reduce water accumulation on the highway. Local authorities have confirmed that traffic conditions were busy yet smooth and under control following the receding of the floodwater.

Impact:

• Businesses located near Jalan RE Martadinata may have experienced reduced footfall during the morning hours due to slowing traffic and minor water accumulation. Deliveries and logistics operations using this corridor may have encountered delays during the peak of the flooding, although conditions improved significantly once the water receded.
• Commuters travelling along the route in the morning may have faced slower movement, especially in areas where puddles accumulated near the embankment.
• Local residents in Tanjung Priok may have observed increased roadside water and damp conditions around building entrances, though impacts were temporary. Public transport services operating along the route may have experienced slight delays during the morning congestion.
• With traffic returning to normal in the early afternoon, residual impacts were minimal. Continued monitoring of tidal patterns remains relevant, as recurring shallow flooding may pose intermittent disruption in the coming days.

Recommendations:

Travellers are advised to use caution when passing through Jalan RE Martadinata during periods of high tide, particularly in the early morning hours when residual water may be present.
