Description:
The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm warning for multiple states across Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak on Thursday (04 December). Thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected across Perak, Pahang, Selangor, WP Kuala Lumpur, WP Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, and parts of Sarawak.
• Across Perak (Hilir Perak, Batang Padang, Muallim) and Pahang (Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Temerloh, Maran, Bera, Rompin), intense rainfall and strong gusts may develop during peak convective periods.
Similar conditions are anticipated across Selangor, WP Kuala Lumpur, WP Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka, where thunderstorms may form rapidly during the afternoon and evening hours.
• In Johor, affected districts include Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Mersing, Pontian and Kota Tinggi, with the potential for short-duration heavy rain and strong winds.
• In Sarawak, thunderstorms are expected in Kuching and Serian, with brief heavy downpours possible.
Impact:
Thunderstorms and heavy rainfall may reduce visibility and slow movement along major expressways and urban corridors, particularly in the Klang Valley and Johor districts. Localised waterlogging in low-lying areas may occur during intense rainfall. Strong winds may displace unsecured objects and briefly affect high-sided vehicles in exposed areas. Short-duration disruptions to outdoor operations and local transport cannot be ruled out.
