Description:
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has issued a warning for heavy snowfall and blizzards in northern Japan. The weather warnings are valid from 1800 hours (local time) on Thursday (04 December) to 1800 hours on Friday (05 January).
Snow is expected to accumulate even on flat ground in Tohoku and Niigata. Snowfall is expected to be as high as 70 centimetres (cm) in the mountainous areas of Tohoku and Niigata, 60 cm in northern Kanto, 40 cm in the plains of Tohoku and Koshinetsu, and 20 cm in the plains of Niigata.
Impact:
Heavy snowfall and blizzards may reduce visibility on major roads, potentially slowing early travel and intercity movement. Strong winds may result in falling branches or unsecured debris in exposed zones.
