Impact Level: Notification
Locations Affected: Tak Province, Thailand
Tracking Id: RINTP4475267302
Description:
As per reports, an order was issued to suspend all import and export activities through natural crossings in the five border districts of Tak Province for a period of seven days, effective from Sunday (30 November) to Sunday (07 December).
• The suspension was announced after clashes on the Myanmar side near Ban Nilapan resulted in bullets crossing the river and falling on the Thai side in the area of Ban Huai Maha Wong, Tambon Maha Wan, Mae Sot District, posing risks to local residents.
• The Naresuan Army has formally requested Mae Sot Customs to halt all waivers for goods movement through any non-designated border routes in the districts of Tha Song Yang, Mae Ramat, Mae Sot, Phop Phra, and Umphang.
• The measure aims to support border control operations, prevent any assistance from crossing into Myanmar that could influence ongoing fighting, and maintain stability and safety for people living along the border.
Impact:
• Businesses dependent on cross-border trade in the affected districts are likely to face delays and reduced operational activity during the seven-day suspension. Small traders and logistics operators who normally rely on natural crossings may experience disruptions in the movement of goods, increased transportation costs, and possible congestion at authorised checkpoints.
• Commuters and local residents in border communities may observe heightened security presence and frequent inspections. Individuals who routinely travel through natural crossings for livelihood activities may encounter restrictions, causing delays and challenges in accessing workplaces or markets.
• Public transport routes are not expected to be significantly disrupted, but an increased security posture may lead to slower movement around sensitive zones in Mae Sot and adjoining districts.
Recommendations:
Travellers and business personnel are advised to avoid natural crossing points in all five affected districts and rely solely on officially approved routes for any movement. Businesses are advised to plan for possible delays in goods delivery and explore alternative supply routes during the suspension period.
