Description:

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a continuous rainfall warning for several states in Peninsular Malaysia, as well as parts of Sarawak and Sabah, from Friday to Monday (05 to 08 December). The following are the additional details:

• Continuous rain is forecast in Sabah, specifically in Sandakan (covering Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Sandakan) and Kudat.
• A similar warning has been issued for Kelantan (Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Baru, Bachok, and Pasir Puteh), Terengganu, and parts of Pahang (Kuantan, Peka,n and Rompin).
• Continuous rain is forecast in several districts in Johor (Segamat, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru), as well as in Sarawak, covering Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei (Pakan, Sarikei and Meradong), Sibu (Sibu and Selangau), Mukah and Bintulu.

Impact:

Continuous rainfall over multiple days may lead to flooding in low-lying areas and regions with poor drainage systems, particularly in districts with a history of flood susceptibility. Residents in hilly or mountainous areas should be prepared for potential landslides, particularly in areas where soil saturation levels are high.

Road users may face reduced visibility, slippery conditions, and possible road closures due to flooding or fallen debris. Coastal areas may experience strong winds and rough seas, posing risks to maritime activities and fishing operations.

Recommendations:

Residents in flood-prone areas should prepare emergency supplies, identify safe evacuation routes, and stay informed about rising water levels in nearby rivers. Those living near slopes or hillsides should remain vigilant and be ready to evacuate if authorities issue warnings. Avoid traveling through flooded roads or areas with fast-moving water, as conditions can change rapidly. Secure loose outdoor items and ensure drainage systems around properties are clear to minimize waterlogging.

Maritime operators and fishermen should monitor sea conditions closely and avoid venturing out during periods of strong winds and rough seas.
