Description:

As per reports, the Pheu Thai Party will be conducting its last election campaign rally at the Thephasadin Stadium in Bangkok, from 1700 hours (local time) onwards on Friday (06 February).

Further details are currently awaited.

Background:

Thailand’s General Elections are scheduled on Sunday (08 February) to elect 500 members of the House of Representatives, following the dissolution of parliament amid political instability.

During the voting, three ballot papers will be given to voters, two for the election and one for a referendum on whether to pursue changes to the constitution.

Impact:

• Travel disruptions are likely to occur on Rama I Road, Soi Chulalongkorn 5, Banthat Thong Road, Phaya Thai Road and other nearby arterial roads, due to anticipated increased vehicle movement, crowd gatherings, and possible security arrangements. Motorists may experience delays, temporary road restrictions, and congestion on surrounding routes.
• In view of the upcoming elections, political mobilisation or demonstrations opposing the Pheu Thai Party cannot be ruled out. Rival groups or political activists may organise protests, counter-rallies, or public gatherings to express dissent, which could heighten tensions in sensitive areas.
• Authorities are likely to maintain increased vigilance and may implement additional security measures to prevent unrest and ensure public order.

Recommendations:

Businesses are advised to closely monitor political developments and election related announcements, and to factor potential delays into operational and strategic planning. Travellers and commuters are advised to remain alert to traffic advisories and security updates, particularly around major political venues and during campaign periods.

Organisations and individuals are advised to follow official guidance from the Election Commission and local authorities as the election date approaches.
