Description:
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Brihan Mumbai has issued a preventive order under the Maharashtra Police Act, XXII of 1951, which will be in effect from Sunday (11 May) till Monday (09 June). As per the order, no person shall be allowed to let off or throw any fire crackers/fireworks or send up any rocket, including a chidi (cracker), in or upon any place in the limits of Brihan Mumbai.
Background:
The preventive order follows a military strike, “Operation Sindoor” conducted on Wednesday (07 May) by the Indian Armed Forces in parts of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and border towns of Pakistan, targeting terrorist hideouts after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April.
Impact:
In view of the ongoing situation, authorities are expected to maintain heightened vigilance throughout the prohibitory period until its conclusion on 09 June. Increased surveillance, patrolling, and additional police deployment may also be implemented per the situational requirements.
