Description:
As per reports, medical technologists and pharmacists across Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions commenced a half day strike between 0800 to 1230 hours (local time) on Wednesday (03 December).
This is to demand the implementation of Grade 10 for medical technologists and pharmacists.
• In Dhaka division, a strike was observed in front of Shariatpur Sadar Hospital in Shariatpur and at the Sakhipur Upazila Health Complex in Sakhipur.
• In Rajshahi division, the strike was observed at the Sadar hospital.
• While the regular operations of the hospital including tests and acquiring medicine have been disrupted, the emergency services remained functional.
• Additionally, medical staff warned of “strict action” if their demands remain unmet. They are expected to hold a full day strike on Thursday (04 December).
Background:
The implementation of Grade 10 is necessary to ensure proper assessment of the importance of responsibilities, job risks, and professional skills.
Impact:
The strike by medical technologists and pharmacists is expected to continue on Thursday (04 December) as well, which implies disruptions to normal operations of impacted hospitals across all divisions of the country.
Moreover, localised disruptions to vehicular movement, public transport and logistics are anticipated in the vicinity of hospitals under strike and also near spontaneous demonstrtions.

It is advised to avoid any demonstrations and to use alternate routes where possible to ensure personal safety.
