Description:
As per reports, Met Éireann forecasts inclement weather conditions in parts of Ireland between Saturday night (10 May) and Wednesday (14 May).
• Saturday (10 May) night is expected to remain largely dry across Ireland, with isolated rainfall expected in the northwest and some drizzle along the west coast. Temperatures may fall between three and seven degrees Celsius, with mist and fog forming in some areas, possibly reducing visibility.
• On Sunday (11 May), dry weather may continue initially, with hazy sunny spells and increasing cloud cover through the day. Rainfall is expected to develop in parts of west Connacht and west Ulster and gradually spread southeastward. Temperatures are expected to range between 15–20 degrees Celsius. Sunday night (11 May) is expected to experience continued rainfall in some locations, interspersed with dry and clear intervals.
• On Monday (12 May), a mixture of cloudy and sunny periods, along with long spells of rainfall may be anticipated. Some of this rainfall may become heavy or thundery in certain areas. Temperatures may remain moderate, between 14 and 18 degrees Celsius.
• On Tuesday (13 May), a mix of sunny spells and rainfall is expected, some of which may turn heavy with isolated thunderstorms possible. Temperatures may reach between 16 and 21 degrees Celsius, with the warmest areas being in the west.
• Wednesday (14 May) is expected to be characterized by sunshine and scattered rainfall. The rainfall is expected to be concentrated in the west and southwest, while the north and east are expected to remain dry. Temperatures are expected to continue to range between 16 and 21 degrees Celsius.
Impact:
• Increased risk of reduced visibility is expected during early mornings and late evenings due to mist and fog, particularly on Saturday (10 May) night.
• Water accumulation and slippery roads are expected in regions experiencing heavy rainfall or thunderstorms, leading to slower travel and higher accident risk.
• Localized disruptions in public transport are expected due to heavy rainfall on Sunday (11 May) and Monday (12 May), especially in western and central regions.
• Outdoor businesses may experience temporary work delays due to rainfall and thunderstorm activity.
• Potential minor delays in supply chains and logistics operations are anticipated due to weather-related travel impacts.
Recommendations:
• Advised to allow additional travel time during periods of fog and rainfall, especially on rural or poorly lit roads.
• Recommended to exercise caution while driving in wet conditions; ensure vehicles are equipped with functional wipers and lights.
• Recommended to monitor further updates via the official portal of the Met Éireann (https://www.met.ie/).
• Advised to reschedule or adjust outdoor activities or services to avoid peak rainfall periods; consider implementing flexible work arrangements.
• Advised to prepare contingency plans for minor delivery or supply disruptions, particularly for perishable or time-sensitive goods.
