Description:
As per reports, the members and workers of Indian National Congress (INC) staged a protest in front of the Block Development Office in Karaikal, Puducherry, on Wednesday (03 December).
They also staged a road blockade on the main thoroughfare near the office.
• The protest was stopped only after the Block Development Officer held discussions with the protestors and assured that pending wages would be released within two weeks.
Background:
The protestors claimed that they had worked for three months in the Karaikal region and had not received any wages under rural 100-day employment scheme.
Impact:
Further protests and even road blockades cannot be ruled out if the workers wages are not released within two weeks. Protests may intensify near the Block Development Office and on nearby roads in Karaikal.
