Impact Level: Notification
Locations Affected: Chungnam, Busan, Gyeonggi Province, Daegu, South Korea
Tracking Id: RINTP4794267404
Description:
As per reports, the National Conference of Irregular School Workers has announced a two-day general strike scheduled for Thursday (04 December) and Friday (05 December) following the breakdown of negotiations with education authorities.
• Strike activities are scheduled to take place on Thursday (04 December) across Gyeonggi Province, Daejeon and South Chungcheong Province, with further mobilisation planned on Friday (05 December) in South Gyeongsang Province, North Gyeongsang Province, Daegu, Busan and Ulsan. Participants will gather for a strike rally in front of the National Assembly and proceed with a large-scale march.
• Negotiations between the Solidarity Council, the Ministry of Education and regional education offices have included multiple rounds since June but have not produced an agreement. Further discussions are planned for Thursday (11 December), with the Solidarity Council indicating that additional strike action may be considered for the new school semester if progress is not made.
Impact:
Rallies and marches near the National Assembly are likely to cause localised traffic congestion, slower movement and temporary access restrictions. Similar delays may occur in other strike-participating regions due to gatherings and transport of participants. School meal and childcare services may operate at reduced capacity, though the main disruptions will stem from crowd activity and related traffic impacts.
