Description:

As per reports, members of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are expected to stage a protest in Freedom Park in Bengaluru on Friday (13 June) followed by a statewide agitation. From Monday (16 June) onwards, the party is expected to hold protests across all assembly constituencies. The protest is against the stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) victory parade on Wednesday (04 June).

BJP members have stated that the protest is against the state government for mishandling the event. MLA BY Vijayendra has further stated that 15,000-20,000 people are likely to participate.

Background:

RCB hosted a grand victory parade, following their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title win, on Wednesday (04 June). Due to the presence of a large number of people, the police started a lathi-charge to maintain law and order. Later, a stampede-like situation developed, resulting in deaths and injuries to the public.

Impact:

Increased security deployment is anticipated around Freedom Park. Local police may issue traffic advisory as per situational requirement. If the statewide agitation goes ahead as planned, intra-state movement may be impacted. Advised to remain abreast of related developments and make travel plans accordingly.
