Description:
As per reports, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ (march held with the national flag of India) in Bengaluru on Sunday (11 May) to show support for the Indian armed forces following Operation Sindoor. Additionally, BJP Minority Morcha is expected to launch a nationwide campaign on Sunday (11 May) called ‘Nagrik Tiranga Yatra for National Security’ (Civilian march with national flag of India for National Security) under the mission of Operation Sindoor.
Over 14,000 Sufi followers are expected to participate in the yatra and they will offer prayers for soldiers across major shrines in India including Ajmer Sharif, Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah in Delhi, Sabir Pak in Kaliyar and Shams Turk Dargah in Panipat, among others. The yatra will be rolled out in phases across capitals, districts, tehsils and major villages. Special prayer will also be held at Gurudwaras, Churches, Mosques, Dargahs and other religious sites. Minority morcha will form state and district level monitoring teams to ensure effective execution.
Background:
A military strike, “Operation Sindoor” was conducted on Wednesday (07 May) by the Indian Armed Forces in parts of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and border towns of Pakistan, targeting terrorist hideouts after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April.
The precision strike was non-escalatory in nature and deliberately did not target any military or civilian infrastructure. However, subsequent retaliations have resulted in a significant escalation in the situation, with both militaries engaging each other. On Saturday (10 May), a ceasefire was announced between both nations but a few hours later, the ceasefire was violated by Pakistan leading to continued tensions.
Impact:
Increased security deployment is expected to be maintained across metro cities if the nationwide yatra goes ahead as planned. The details regarding yatra route and timings are yet to be confirmed. Advised to remain abreast of related developments and make travel plans accordingly.
